Frequently Asked Questions

The Montessori method is an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and hands-on learning. It is characterized by a prepared environment where children are encouraged to explore and learn at their own pace.

Montessori Centres typically follow a specific educational philosophy emphasizing self-directed learning and individualized instruction. Daycares primarily focus on providing childcare services for working parents. While both may offer similar services such as playtime, snack/lunch, nap time, and socialization opportunities; Montessori Schools typically provide a structured approach to learning and have a more academic focus toward the child’s development.

Generally speaking, young Montessori students are ahead of grade school curriculum. Transitioning from a Montessori program to a public school can be a big change for students. It is important to communicate with your child's new school and teachers to understand their expectations and curriculum. Encourage your child to ask questions and be open to new learning experiences.

At Bright Beginnings Montessori, programs accommodate children as young as 6 months and up to 6 years old. Our programs are specifically designed to facilitate the development and skills of the child regardless of age. If a child is having difficulty in class, our trained staff can slow the curriculum down until your child masters the skill set and develops confidence in what they are learning. If a child is progressing quicker than their peers, we provide them with new challenges and stimulating materials.

When your child arrives, they are greeted by a member of the Bright Beginnings’ team and checked in. They change into their inside shoes and neatly hang up their backpack and outerwear. When they enter their classroom, the children have 15 minutes to interact with their friends before starting Circle Time. Circle Time incorporates a theme and learning points which are practiced as a group in a fun activity such as singing, dancing and games.

After, the children’s Work Time begins. They can practice skills in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Science, and Geography. Outdoor playtime is an important part of your child’s day and each class generally has this time in the morning and afternoon. We also use the outdoors as a classroom, by involving your child and their classmates in planting and watering our garden.

Snacks are offered throughout the day, and lunch takes place before nap time. If your child has outgrown naps, they are not a requirement and we will move on to other activities with them! The children also participate in Creative Time, which is arts and crafts that they create to take home!

A classroom with different age groups promotes collaborative learning and builds relationships. In this structure, older children have the opportunity to help and teach the younger children. The younger children are eager to learn from their older classmates, and in turn, the older children can gain new skills and a sense of achievement.

Our instructors monitor every child under their care and keep a record of your child’s progress and milestone achievements to keep you up to date through our interactive parent portal and regular communications.

Yes, Bright Beginnings Montessori participates in the government funded Affordability Program. With that said, it is reasonable to expect Bright Beginning’s programs to be priced higher than a standard day home or daycare as we have amazing tools and teachers for our students. We also offer valuable one on one interactions at Bright Beginnings Montessori when your child is mastering skill sets. We value the children as individuals and place great emphasis on their developmental milestones.

Yes, we can assist with potty training. When you feel your child is ready for this big step in life, Bright Beginnings will formulate an action plan that aligns with your goals at home.

Children within our program will be treated with respect. Discipline is a clear set of rules and behaviours and is a continuous process of guiding behaviour to assist children in developing self-control, self-confidence and self-discipline. It is based on a concern for the safety and well-being of each child. We work to keep discipline appropriate based on the age of the child. Different techniques may be used, as no one way will always work for each child. We use a positive approach, which avoids personal humiliation.

Our discipline policies will be communicated beforehand to parents in the form of a mandatory signed policy statement at the beginning of the year and open fluid communication if problems arise.
